Memory locations are great for… well, keeping a specific location in…memory. But, they have some other cool uses.
You can color code your regions based on your markers, which is a nice way to visually distinguish between sections of a song, or different scenes in a film. To do this, place markers at the beginning of the sections that you want to distinguish. Then, in preferences->display, under “Default Region Color Coding:” select “Marker Locations” and voila!

Ooooooh, pretty.
Another cool use for markers are the non-location based markers functionality. Markers can not only store a location, but also:
-Zoom Settings
-Pre/Post Roll Times
-Track Show/Hide
-Track Heights
-Group Enables
-Window Configurations
This is fairly self-explanatory, but this comes in handy when you need to switch any of these parameters quickly. The easiest way to do this is using the marker access shortcut, which is [period key -> marker number -> period key] So you could, for example, set up your first marker in your session to be all tracks shown, in mini view, and then you can quickly show all tracks by pressing [ . 1 . ] (note: This needs to be done on the number pad [the period and the number])
In your memory locations window, it keeps track of which of these functions are being used in a particular marker.

This is helpful when using a Pro Control, where you can’t call up masters and spill them out like you can with a D-Command
I´ve tried tough didn´t get any result. I have a PT M-powered, this have smtg to do with this version ?
Hey Francesco, which function of the memory locations is not working for you specifically?
Does anyone know how to "link" markers with an audio region? For example, in a live recording (samples, not ticks) I may place a marker at the beginning of the 2nd movement of a piano concerto so I know approximately where to look when I mix/edit. But in the edit session, if I am in shuffle mode, and delete
portions of the track up front, the audio slides down, but the markers do not. I'm stuck with markers that don't match the audio they were intended to mark. How do I keep a marker and audio sample in synch?
@kris, unfortunately, memory locations don't follow the edit patterns of normal regions. A workaround for this would be to use a midi track with notes in place of memory locations. This way, your midi notes will fall in line with your regions when you do shuffle-edits.
Markers CAN be edited like regions – you just have to select the marker "track" along with your audio track when you make the edits: cut, paste, insert paste, etc, but NOT nudge. You must always have an audio track selected with the marker track to change it. If the markers get messed up (i.e. separated from the desired relationship with your audio tracks), make a dummy audio track. Then make a selection in the dummy track and the marker track together to insert/delete the markers back into "sync" with your audio tracks.
